AI-moderated interviews

Work with Verasight to conduct AI-moderated interviews, so you can add qualitative depth to your survey research. In our randomized head-to-head study, AI-moderated interviews returned 4.8 times as many words in free-response questions as written survey open-ends.

Why Verasight?

The same high quality you expect from Verasight

Verasight recruits every panelist directly and authenticates each one by SMS through a mobile phone registered with a major U.S. carrier, the same approach banks use to verify account access. Interviews run the same continuous checks as our surveys: reCAPTCHA v3, attention checks, response-time monitoring, and review of open-ended text for coherent, on-topic content. Government ID verification is triggered only when behavior raises a flag, which fewer than 1% of respondents reach. Because you are using AI to run the interview, it matters that two independent studies of Verasight data found near zero evidence of AI agents among respondents.

We rigorously test the limits of AI-moderated interviews, not just the upside

We ran a randomized head-to-head study of 3,160 U.S. adults, fielding the same instrument as a traditional survey and as an AI-moderated interview. The interviews returned 4.8 times as many respondent words per assigned respondent, 128 against 27. Completion fell from 99.4% to 40.5%, and that attrition was not random. Drop-off concentrated among people less comfortable with AI tools, measured before assignment. We design around that finding instead of ignoring it.

Add depth to a survey you are already running

Field the quantitative instrument to a representative sample, then route respondents into an AI-moderated interview on the same survey. The sample definition, the weights, and the documentation carry across both halves of the project.

Work with our team of PhDs

We help you decide what belongs in an interview and what belongs in a closed-ended question, write prompts that do not lead the respondent, set interview length against the drop-off you are willing to accept, and read the transcripts against the survey data rather than separately from it.

Account for who does not finish

Attrition in AI-moderated interviews is selective, so we treat it as a measurement problem. We capture attitudes toward AI and response behavior before assignment, report completion against the full assigned sample, and weight or caveat the qualitative findings accordingly.

“We asked Verasight to conduct a complex, bespoke survey of a targeted and hard-to-reach population. They not only provided creative ideas, but executed the project with professionalism, and delivered extremely high-quality data. Their customer service is amazing; they were responsive to our needs and questions, and worked closely with us to produce an amazing dataset.”
